Best
of Show GrandPrize Overall!
We are celebrating BIG TIME! This year's Southern New Mexico's State Fair Theme was "Space Party"! It was Highland Elementary School's turn to enter! Kerry O'Neill (she teaches K-2) and I (grades 3-5) collaborated and had ALL 800 plus kiddos work collaboratively to fill our 16' x 8' ART BOOTH with a SPACE PARTY that rocked the Universe!
We devoted 3 art sessions to this task!
( Kerry and I devoted two Sundays for setting up and taking down the Art Booth! AND
THANKS TO MR. SMITH WHO MARRIED INTO THIS ART TEACHING BUSINESS!)
Booth BACKGROUND: GRADE 3 did Pendulum Paintings with recycled water bottles as their paint delivery systems! GRADE 4 created compass watercolor paintings with pastel to create SPACE BUBBLE BOXES. GRADE 5 rolled paper straw struts and assembled and painted geodesic dome homes for the STAR WARS MINIONS created by GRADE 1. PLANETARY MOBILES, inspired by the artist Alexander Calder, were created by GRADE 2 artists and the Kinder Kids painted STARS.
Our DDPRE and special Autism class made the CENTERPIECE of our booth....OUR SUN AND MOON in a bas relief format using plaster cloth and tempera paints!
Visitors to our booth numbered in the hundreds
the week of the Fair! BONUS: HIGHLAND STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO GO ON A SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TO THE FAIR AND VISITED THE SCHOOL'S DISPLAY.
